Possibility to Legalize Same Sex Marriage in Thailand

泰國將可能承認同性婚姻合法化之國家

On July 8, 2020, Ratchada Thanadirek, deputy government of Thailand made an announcement that Thai Cabinet approved Civil Partnership Bill which may legalize same sex marriage and provide better rights for same-sex couples.[1]

泰國政府副發言人拉差達在7月8日通知泰國內閣通過了《民事伴侶法案》，該法承認同性婚姻並提供同性伴侶一定的權益。

Currently the Bill is waiting for Thai parliament’s approval. Once it is approved, Thailand will be the first country in Southeast Asia (also the second country in Asia, the first one is Taiwan) to recognize same-sax partnership, which is a breakthrough. The bill provides rights for the couple to merge finances, claim inheritance rights, and to adopt children.

該法案目前已交送泰國國會批准，通過之後泰國將成為東南亞第一個將同性婚姻合法化的國家(第二個亞洲國家，第一個為台灣)，算是一項突破。該法不僅使同性伴侶可合併財產，也可主張繼承權、領養小孩。

In order to register marriage, a couple must be at least 17 years old and at least one of them must be a Thai citizen, which means foreign same-sex couples aren’t able to legalize the relationship. The bill also indicates rules for separation. However, transgender is not yet legalized in Thailand.

同性伴侶在泰國進行婚姻登記，必須年滿17歲且至少有一方為泰國公民，這表示在泰國的外國同性戀無法在泰國進行登記。該法案還規定同性伴侶怎麼在泰國辦理離婚登記，不過，變性人尚未在泰國合法化。

The bill was introduced in year 2018 but the previous legislature wasn’t able to pass it before last year's election.

這項法案於2018年提出，但當時的國會議員未能在2019年國會選舉之前通過此法。
